Bubb and Pheiffer on podium at marathon
They finished second and third, respectively, in the women's 10km race at the Balwin Sport Jeppe Marathon.
It was a successful morning out for the Benoni Northerns Athletic Club’s (BNAC) Kaitlyn Bubb and Robyn Pheiffer as the duo sped to second and third, respectively, in the Balwin Sport Jeppe Marathon women’s 10km race, in Bedfordview on February 9.
Bubb clocked 39:46 to finish second behind winner Tebogo Mokgosinyane of Nedbank Running Club, who won in 39:29. Pheiffer filled the last podium position 55 seconds after Bubb, when she crossed the line in 40:09.
Their teammate, Jess Vermaas, was also in the top 10. She finished eighth in 47:20 while veteran BNAC runner Michael Baker was third in the men’s 70-years and above race after finishing in 01:06:30.
In the half-marathon, Norman Milne was second in the men’s 70-years and above race. He crossed the line in 02:28:24 while his Northerns teammate Jabulani Nkosi (02:12:45) was 14th in the grandmaster men’s event.
Darren Zabielski clocked 01:33:56 to finish seventh in the veteran men’s race and the Benoni High Athletic Club’s (BHAC) Ian Brown rounded-up the podium in 01:29:11 in the master men’s race.
Sipho Dzingwa, of BNAC, was second in the grandmaster men’s 42.2km race. Dzingwa’s teammate Wonderboy Hlophe was sixth in the master men’s event while Desmond Phillips of the BHAC finished sixth in the same race in 03:25:33.
Armstrong Khoza (03:27:11) of the Benoni Harriers was 13th in the master men’s race.
