Devotees celebrate Thai Poosam Kavady

“Symbolically bearing one’s burdens requires immense determination and devotion.”

Dressed in hues of yellow, carrying kavadis adorned with marigolds, devotees of the Arulmighu Shri Anantha Muthumariamman Temple, New Modder gathered to celebrate Thai Poosam Kavady festival, on February 11.

Gurrukal Vishendrin Vijay Kumar, founder and spiritual head, welcomed faithful members to the temple’s third annual Thai Poosam celebrations.

Young and old participated in the vibrant expression of faith and unity in reverence to Lord Murugan.

“This temple was erected solely for the benefit of the community and to give gratitude to the temple’s presiding deities, including Lord Murugan,” he said.

“The practice of carrying kavadis through the streets of New Modder subsequently circling back to the temple, emphasises devotees’ discipline and penance, underscoring the dedication required for this sacred act of devotion.

“We entrust Lord Murugan to guide our bodies, minds and soul, to face life’s upheavals with unwavering faith.”

Dedicated to Lord Murugan, the ten day commemoration leading up to the Thai Poosam Kavady, devotees seek strength and guidance from the Hindu deity.
