Book donation a big boost for HP Mokoka Library

The chairperson of the DRCC, Isaac Mokori, said the donation aims to promote literacy and foster a culture of reading in the community.

Members of the Daveyton Rotary Community Corp (DRCC), in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, donated hundreds of books to the HP Mokoka Library in Etwatwa on February 26.

These newly added books, consisting of fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, mathematics, and adult books, were warmly received by library staff.

The chairperson of the DRCC, Isaac Mokori, said the donation aims to promote literacy and foster a culture of reading in the community.

Handing over the books to Johannes Matjila (second from the left, HP Mokoka Library librarian) is Garth Smithard (president of the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora), Isaac Mokori (chairperson of Daveyton Rotary Community Corp), past president Sylvia Knoop and district governor of District 9400, Dr George Senosha.

“We chose to donate to the library, even though it is not fully functional, after identifying a need and noticing an increasing number of learners who use the facility for study purposes daily, especially since the other Daveyton library is closed.”

Garth Smithard, president of the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, said this project marks the beginning of the DRCC’s active involvement in the community as they seek initiatives to address local challenges.

District governor of District 9400, Dr George Senosha indicated that the books are from the Rotary International Humanitarian Centre.

A Rotary Community Corps (RCC) is a group of non-rotarians who share a commitment to changing the world through service projects within their communities.
