Comment on independent power producers council plans to use

The city seeks community feedback on the proposed 20-year contracts.

The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is calling on members of the public to provide input on independent power producers (IPPs).

According to CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the city plans to appoint multiple IPPs for various electricity generation technologies to a capacity of 1 500MW.

The appointed IPPs will receive 20-year contracts.

The CoE invites the community and other interested parties to submit comments or representation to the municipality regarding the proposed contract to April.dlamini@ekurhuleni.gov.za and Jabulile.kgomo@ekurhuleni.gov.za

Public participation meetings will be held across all regions of the city:

  • Northern region (Edenvale, Bedfordview, Kempton Park and Thembisa), March 25 from 17:00 to 19:00 at the Rabasotho Community Centre.
  • Southern region (Alberton, Germiston and Boksburg), March 26 from 17:00 to 19:00 at the Palm Ridge Community Hall.
  • Eastern region (Springs, Nigel, Benoni and Brakpan), March 27 from 17:00 to 19:00 at the Faranani Multipurpose Centre.
