Operations will continue in the build up to Easter weekend.

Stolen vehicles
• Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) arrested two men in Strubenvale, Springs, on March 13.

The men, aged 28 and 29, were wanted in connection with the theft of a white Renault Kwid, in February.

The vehicle as well as some of the owner’s personal items were found in the suspects’ possession.

This Toyota Hilux was recovered in Ivory Park Ext 3 after being hijacked. A 46-year-old man was arrested.

• BFS officers assisted Tracker on March 16, to recover a hijacked white Toyota Hilux.

The vehicle was traced to Ivory Park Extension 3 and a 46-year-old man was arrested.

Ammunition and bribery
BFS members launched a hunt for a foreign national travelling in a white Toyota Sprinter, allegedly carrying live ammunition.

Just after 14:00 on March 15, the 46-year-old suspect was apprehended in Ampthill Avenue.

Four live rounds of ammunition were found in his possession. A charge of bribery was added after the suspect offered officers R2 000 in exchange for his release.

This foreign national was arrested in Amphill Avenue on charges of bribery and possession of live ammunition.

Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS)
From March 8 to 13, WPDS members were deployed to numerous incidents throughout Gauteng.

March 8
• Divers from Sedibeng responded to a call where bones, wrapped in a blanket, were found floating on the Vaal River, near a plot in Zuurfontein.

• The bodies of two missing persons were recovered in the Vaal River.
The victims were reported as missing on March 3.

• Johannesburg WPDS divers recovered the body of a 23-year-old male drowning victim in Westdene.

• The body of an unidentified woman was recovered in a stream in Moloteni Section, Natalspruit, by Ekurhuleni WPSD members.

March 9
An operation led by Sedibeng WPDS at the University of Johannesburg grounds, on the banks of the Vaal Dam led to the recovery of four bags of fish, four illegal nets and implements used for illegal fishing.

Bags of fish as well as illegal fishing nets and implements were seized during an operation by members of the Sedibeng WPDS, at the Vaal Dam.

March 11
Sedibeng WPDS members responded to a call from a mother and child who had fallen into a stream in De Deur.

The child managed to swim to safety, however, following an extensive search the mother could not be found.

The body of the victim was found the following day approximately 360 meters from where the incident occurred.

March 12
A body of an unknown person was found floating in contaminated water in Mamelodi.

March 13
• Ekurhuleni WPDS units recovered the body of a 55-year-old woman in Kempton Park.

• The body of a badly decomposed person was recovered from the marshy veld next to the N12 Rondebult Road onramp.
