CAXTON SCHOOLS: St Dunstan’s Easter Sport Fest day two wrap
Rugby and netball added to the festivities of the day, while hockey entered its second day.
Hillcrest High School’s stunning comeback against Midlands Christian School highlighted an action-packed second day of the St Dunstan’s Easter Sports Festival.
After hockey kicked the competition into gear yesterday, the second day was always going to stand out because of the match-ups on offer and bums on seats on the netball courts, rugby fields and hockey Astros.

It was an eventful day of sport, one that separated the men from the boys on the rugby fields, while the girls created a spectacle around the four netball courts, which were packed with spectators from the first matches at 08:00.
Rugby
Hillcrest had a second half to remember after a woeful first stanza, where they were dominated in all aspects of the game.

Midlands were 12-0 at the break but the wheels came off after that as the Hillcrest team came out of the break, certainly had a dose of inspiration and sprinkling of determination to stage a comeback that stunned the Zimbabweans into silence and ultimately, submission.
Hillcrest won 19-12 and the win was crucial because they have a bigger purpose.
“We have a motto in our school that we always play for the people back home,” said skipper Sphesihle Hlambisi.

In selected fixtures, the hosts, St Dunstan’s, opened their account with a disappointing 64-6 loss to Ashton Ballito, while Benoni High beat St Charles 20-8.
Hellenic Academy defeated St David’s Marist Inanda seconds 64-8 and St John’s Harare narrowly beat Vryburger High 33-29.

Netball
A total of 38 matches took place today and after six rounds, Reddam Waterfall are undefeated, while St Dunstan’s played five matches, winning four, including a pulsating 22-21 victory over Jeppe, and drew 25-all with Reddam.
Ashton Ballito won all their four matches, including a 60-3 win over St Francis College, while Benoni High firsts won four and lost two.

Hockey
The day two programme started with the Benoni High boys edging EG Jansen Invitational 1-0 while the St Dunstan’s College girls claimed a 1-0 victory over Wise Owl.

St Dominic’s High continued their dominance with a 6-0 win against Lomagundi in their first match of the day. They followed that up with a 14-0 defeat of The Heritage School.
In the late fixtures, the Beaulie College boys beat Hillcrest 9-1 while the Hillcrest girls beat St Dunstan’s 2-1.
