Two killed in armed robbery at Daveyton filling station

A man and a woman in their 20s were fatally shot during a business robbery at the Engen Garage in Daveyton during the early hours of May 5.
According to Ekurhuleni district police spokesperson Captain Nelda Sekgobela, a group of armed suspects stormed the filling station and ordered one of the petrol attendants to instruct his colleagues to open the shop’s main door.
Once inside, the suspects allegedly forced the attendant to lie on the ground before bombing the drop-in safe and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
While some suspects were inside the shop, others remained outside directing customers who arrived to refuel to exit their vehicles and lie on the ground.
The man was fatally shot after he refused to comply. He allegedly reversed his vehicle and the suspects opened fire. He died at the scene.
A 21-year-old woman, who was also in the vehicle, sustained gunshot wounds and later died in hospital from her injuries.
The Daveyton SAPS have opened cases of murder and business robbery. No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
