Police arrest Crystal Park woman for concealment of birth

The police took the woman to Far East Rand Hospital for medical attention, where she is under police guard.

Crystal Park police recently arrested a 22-year-old woman for concealment of birth.

According to Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mopeli, a waste picker arrived at the police station to report the discovery of a stillborn baby in a dustbin on Longer Street, Crystal Park.

Mopeli said the police found the body of a baby girl inside the dustbin, which had a house number written on it.

“Police proceeded to the address and questioned the occupants of the property. The woman, who was with her mother, allegedly failed to answer some questions, and the police subsequently arrested her,” said Mopeli.

They took the woman to Far East Rand Hospital for medical attention, where she is under police guard.

She will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
