WATCH: Nurses’ committed care celebrated
“Your role within the community is significant and your efforts do not go unnoticed.
With a gentle hand and warm smiles, nurses have the ability to calm the sick, scared and weary, during times of uncertainty.
In celebration of International Nurses’ Day yesterday (May 12), management of Life The Glynnwood Hospital gathered to celebrate the profession and those who uphold the ethos of care.
With the pips on their epaulette shone to perfection the hospital’s frontline staff took their seats to enjoy a slower start to the morning routine.
“Being a nurse is about more than checking vitals and dishing out medication,” said former The Life Glynwood Hospital manager and current regional manager inland South, Matthew Moavodi.
“This profession is physically, emotionally and mentally taxing yet you effortlessly offer quality care and compassion to each and every person in your care.
“We applaud your resilience and tenacity while celebrating your strength. Your smiles are the heartbeat of this organisation offering healing to those in need.”

While a lamp symbolising the legacy of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale, flickered in the background, four nursing staff members were honoured for becoming the newest inductees into the organisation’s Great 100 Nurses.
Sr Beauty Miyambo, Sr Mareitte Brytenbach, Sr Dolly Dlamini and Sr Mmathapelo Mashamaite were honoured for their strong leadership skills, dedication and above all compassionate care.
The hospital’s maternity unit was capped as the unit of the quarter while the Neonatal ICU claimed the infection prevention unit of the year award.
