Local company celebrates Slipper Day with the elderly

Slippers donated on Slipper Day will help keep elderly residents at The Old People’s Home warm this winter, thanks to Honeycomb BEE’s thoughtful gesture.

Lindiwe Mohlauli, the matron of The Old People’s Home, said slippers donated by the Northmead B-BBEE verification agency Honeycomb BEE on Slipper Day, May 30, will keep the home’s elderly residents warm this winter.

The Honeycomb BEE gifted the senior citizens 90 pairs of slippers to show “there are still people who care for them”.

Mohlauli shared her appreciation, saying it meant a lot to them.

“It tells us that there are people out there who think about us in the old age homes and that there are still people who care about us in this critical world we live in. We appreciate it very much,” she said.

Honeycomb BEE MD Chantal Mitchell said they chose the home to remind the community of the importance of caring for the elderly.

“We always forget about old people. It’s nice for them to have a time to feel special and to know some people care and think about them,” Mitchell said.

She added that they want to make this a tradition, along with their Mandela Day and Christmas Day initiatives and their Make-A-Wish Foundation drive.
