Benoni Indians players off to Taiwan
They are part of the 21-man team to represent the country in the tournament.
Six Benoni Indians are in the provisional national U12 squad selected for the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) U12 World Cup in Taiwan.
Nate Lerwill, Seth Hains, Luke de Lange, Jarred Long, Sebastian Savides and Jonathan Stacey are part of the 21-man squad shortlisted by South African Baseball Union (SABU) to do battle for the country in the eighth edition of this biennial tournament in Tainan from July 25 to August 3.
The squad consists of players from Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Limpopo. It will be led by Shawn Schwartz of the Benoni Indians as head coach. Quinton Amos and Alroy Savides will be his assistants, while Anita Hains is the head of delegation.
The SABU president, Marc Moreau, extended his congratulations to the players.

“This squad represents the future of South African baseball, and we are proud to see such strong talent emerging from every corner of our country,” said Moreau.
“Competing at the World Cup is not just about results — it’s about growth, learning, and proudly flying our flag on the world stage.
“Following our senior team’s successful participation at the World Baseball Classic—also hosted in Taiwan—and having experienced an outstanding training camp in Tainan, we’re confident that our U12s will benefit from the same world-class hospitality and the strong international relationships we’ve built.”
SA has been drawn in group B with Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, South Korea, Panama and defending champions, USA.
They open their account against South Korea on July 25.
