Child welfare unveils new logo, mission statement
The Greater Benoni Child Welfare unveils a fresh look and renewed mission to better protect and empower vulnerable children across the community.
Greater Benoni Child Welfare begins a new chapter with rebrand
The Greater Benoni Child Welfare has launched a fresh chapter with the unveiling of a vibrant new logo and updated vision and mission statements. The rebranding seeks to better capture the breadth and impact of the organisation’s work.
Founded in 1924, the society provides a comprehensive range of services to support and uplift children and families.
Director Vanessa Carelse said, “We went back to the drawing board to reflect on what we’re doing and realised our previous vision and mission no longer captured the full scope of our work.
“We’ve revised these and also decided to update our logo and branding to better reflect our renewed purpose.”

The organisation’s new vision reads: Empowering every child, nurturing every future – building a community where every child thrives.
Carelse explained that the updated vision focuses on creating a supportive environment where all children can thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
“Our goal is to ensure every child feels safe, empowered and supported to reach their full potential,” she said.
“We aim to build a future where every child grows into a confident, compassionate person who contributes positively to society.”
Their new mission underscores this commitment: “The Benoni Child Welfare is dedicated to protecting, empowering and uplifting vulnerable children and families through comprehensive social services, strong community partnerships, and focused advocacy. We strive to restore dignity, ensure safety, and build resilience in every child we serve.”

The newly unveiled logo is rich in symbolism. It depicts a child flanked by parents, holding balloons that represent the hope inspired by the organisation’s programmes.
Above the balloons, stars symbolise light and empowerment, while a green hand below reflects the society’s role in offering support and guidance.
“This logo captures our essence. It reflects our prevention programmes, advocacy work and the nurturing care provided through our Child and Youth Care Centre,” said Carelse.
Colin House
The Colin House Child and Youth Care Centre remains central to the organisation’s work, providing a haven for up to 20 children, aged four to 12, who have been removed from harmful environments.
The centre offers a stable, family-like environment while arranging permanent placements. Carelse emphasised that, alongside its statutory duties, the society delivers a broad range of preventative and empowerment services for families and communities.
These include:
• Parenting skills training;
• Support for teen mothers;
• Foster parent training and support;
• Grief support groups;
• Advocacy and awareness campaigns on issues like GBV and substance abuse;
• Mediation;
• Collaborations with government departments, such as Social Development, Justice, Health, the SAPS and Sassa.
