Benoni court sentences man to 15 years for armed robbery of child and adult

A man from Etwatwa received a 15-year sentence for robbing a child and an adult at gunpoint in 2021.

The Benoni Regional Court sentenced Sibusiso Hamilton Nyembe (30) of Etwatwa to 15 years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The sentence followed a 2021 incident on Koppie Motebang Street when Nyembe pointed a firearm at a 12-year-old and a 51-year-old man before robbing them of three cellphones valued at R4 500 and R160 in cash.

According to Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Barbra Ndaba, the case was assigned to Detective Constable Rembuluwani Khwareli, whose thorough investigation led to Nyembe’s arrest and conviction.
