She finished 15th in the junior race at the recent SPAR Women's 10km Challenge in Durban.

Parkrand middle-distance runner Kai Hattingh has her sights set on an improved performance when she lines up for the ABSA Run Your City Durban on July 13.

The 13-year-old Leeuwenhof Academy Grade Eight learner impressed at the SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge Durban on June 22, clocking 40:47 to finish 15th in the junior category.

Having dominated several local 5km races, including the Tommy Malone Memorial Race and the Springs Striders 5km, the Laerskool Baanbrekker alumna continues to show steady improvement.

Following her performance in Durban, the Nedbank Running Club youngster is now preparing for the upcoming ABSA Run Your City event next month.

“It was the best feeling ever to line up alongside my idol, Glenrose Xaba. The support was great. I’m now focusing on the Absa Run Your City in Durban. I’m working hard to improve my performance,” she said.

“I had such an inspirational interprovincial experience. The athletes around me were so supportive. I’m so blessed to be part of such a big event. Thank you to Nedbank and my sponsor, SPAR Southern,” she said.

Kai is now aiming to qualify for the ASA Cross Country Championships in Middelburg in September.
