Biemba releases second book

We are teaching children that it’s fine to be sad and to allow others to help them get out of their sad state.

Local author Janap Biemba released her second book, titled Cuddles the Panda, at Seed Cafè, Northfield Methodist Church on June 29.

According to Biemba, Cuddles the Panda teaches children the value of friendships, the importance of community, and the power of encouragement.

The book is a continuation of her maiden offering, Dingo the Brave Elephant.

“All the animals mentioned in the first book will have a story to tell. In this one, Cuddles goes through an emotional journey. I’m teaching children to accept that it is okay to be sad and allow others to help get them out of that mood,” said Biemba.

In the book, Cuddles lives in a green forest near a small village. He enjoys playing with his friends but becomes sad and withdrawn after one of his friends, Flutter the butterfly, flew away to a warmer place.

As the Falling Fruits Festival approaches, all the animals in the forest are excited, but Cuddles still seems sad.

Dingo the Brave Elephant decides to help Cuddles rediscover his joy. He takes him to all the places he used to visit with his butterfly friend.

Biemba explained that the book teaches children that it is okay to be sad; however, instead of isolating themselves, they should always count on their friends to cheer them up.

“Cuddles learnt that while he missed Flutter, friends who cared for him surrounded him.”

During the launch, children from Chief Albert Luthuli NPO, Positive Vibrations, performed a play adapted from the book.

The proceeds from the book will go towards the 21 for 21 Maya’s legacy initiative, which aims to provide girls with sanitary pads.
