Local dancers shine on world stage in England

Five dancers from Dynamic Dance Studio represented South Africa at the World Freestyle Dance Championships in Blackpool, with 11-year-old Millica Pelser claiming a top title.

Coach Sanchia Lamprecht of Dynamic Dance Studio has expressed her pride and gratitude after five of her dancers represented South Africa at the World Freestyle Dance Championships held at the Empress Ballroom, Winter Gardens in Blackpool, England, from June 27 to 29.

Lamprecht praised Karien (15) and Marian (18) Jansen van Vuuren, Millica Pelser (11), Tayla Jade Brits (13), and Anja Neuhoff (17) for flying the flag high on the international stage.

“It’s a result of long hours, weekends, and eight-hours-a-day training. The girls gave their all in every session and at the championships. They worked crazy hours and I’m very proud of them. I can’t wait for next year,” said Lamprecht.

Pelser was the standout performer of the group, winning the U12 street championship by outshining 88 competitors. She also placed fourth in the U12 slowdance prem and fifth in the U12 freestyle prem.

Brits finished fourth in the U14 freestyle prem in a field of 20 dancers.

Reflecting on the experience, Pelser said, “It was rewarding and I’m proud I gave it my all.” Brits added, “I’m honoured and can’t wait to go again.”

Millica Pelser came back from the competition with three trophies.

Lamprecht, herself a seven-time world champion in various age groups, added to the medal tally by winning the adult slowdance and adult prem freestyle titles during the event.

She shared how emotional and fulfilling it was to see her students perform.

“It felt like I had finally done my job and my part was done. Every time they went on stage, they looked amazing. They were confident, looked the part, and danced the part. I was happy every time I saw them on the floor.”

Looking ahead, the hard work continues.

“The work hasn’t stopped. We are already preparing for June next year and the world champs afterwards. The girls will be training through the school holidays and December,” she said.
