Copper cable theft
While patrolling the R555, Springs Road, on July 24, members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) arrested a 28-year-old foreign national, who was in possession of suspected stolen copper cable.
The value of the cable is estimated at R20 000.
Upon his arrest the suspect offered officers R1 000 in exchange for his release. An additional charge of bribery was added.
Possession of drugs
• Mandrax with an estimated value of R50 000 was recovered in Emaphupeni, Etwatwa, on July 24.
BFS members arrested a 37-year-old suspect, on charges of possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
A total of 831 tablets were seized.
• Three suspects, aged 27 to 40, were arrested at the Thembisa Plaza and Uphundu Street, Kingsway, for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Heroine and meth were recovered.

Gender-based violence
A 26-year-old man was arrested at the Ehlanzeni Hostel, in Thembisa, on July 27.
He was charged with domestic violence.
Rapid Response Services (RRS)
From July 18 to 24, SAPS Rapid Response Services, including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 100 suspects across Gauteng.
The operation resulted in:
• 46 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unwrought gold bearing material, common robbery, malicious damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol, contravention of the immigration act, armed robbery, housebreak-in, possession of counterfeit money, fraud, kidnapping, murder, bribery, possession of vehicle breaking equipment, contravention of protection order and theft.
• 38 hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered with 16 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.
• Twelve suspects were arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms, 12 weapons were recovered.
• 26 arrests were made for the possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Drugs recovered included, heroine, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
