Join Caxton Cares in the fight against period poverty

Collections can be dropped in the designated shopping trolley at Oakfields Pick n Pay.

The Benoni City Times, Caxton Local Media Joburg East and Oakfields Pick n Pay are joining forces this Women’s Month, in the fight against period poverty.

According to BreadlineAfrica, more than a third of South African girls miss an estimated 20% of their academic year, due to lack of access to basic menstrual products, such as sanitary pads.

In an effort to ‘Pad a Girls’ Future’ Caxton Cares and Oakfields have partnered up to collect sanitary pads, in aid of local schools throughout the city.

A designated trolley has been placed inside the supermarket outlet and shoppers, business and the community are invited to donate towards the cause from today (August 1) until August 31.

“Girls are bearing the brunt of not being able to afford essential sanitary products and as a result missing out on vital educational time,” said Christo Jacobs, store manager.

“As part of our commitment to support this initiative and to honour the women of our community we will be donating sanitary products to the value of R10 000.”
