FOLLOW-UP: Search continues as concern grows for kidnapped business owner

Investigations are continuing, and the police urge anyone with information to come forward.

It has been just over a week since Mohammed Seedat (42), who owns the Rynfield Drapers & Outfitters, was kidnapped at the business.

According to a source close to the investigation, who wished to remain anonymous, the case remains active despite no new leads.

“We remain hopeful that the victim will be found and reunited with his loved ones,” said the source.

“We are concerned for his safety and urge the community to come forward with any information. Someone knows where he is, and we appeal to their conscience to do the right thing.”

Seedat was kidnapped during a business robbery shortly after 09:20 on July 23. Eyewitnesses said two vehicles entered the premises, one described as a gunmetal grey Mercedes-Benz, later confirmed as having false number plates.

Six men entered the store along with Seedat, holding the security guard, the store manager and the staff at gunpoint. One assailant went behind the counter to access the till, taking an undisclosed amount of money.

Seedat’s hands were tied behind his back, and he was forced into one of the getaway vehicles.

“The vehicle sped out of the parking lot onto Pretoria Road in the direction of Crystal Park,” said an eyewitness.

“Two shots were fired at the suspects’ vehicle by the security guard.”
