Possession of drugs
• Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) arrested a 30-year-old man on July 28 for possession of six bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R10 000.
At 06:40, patrolling members noticed a white Lexus speeding on the N12 towards Etwatwa. They brought the car to a stop at the Etwatwa off-ramp, after which they searched it. The suspect was handed over to the Etwatwa SAPS.
• Members arrested a 26-year-old man travelling in a white Suzuki Swift on the R555, Etwatwa, on August 1 after finding him in possession of 10 bags of dagga with an estimated value of R30 000.
• Membera arrested seven people aged 27 to 39 in Tsakane and Brakpan for possession of drugs with the inten to sell. Officers confiscated cocaine, heroin and crystal meth.
SAPS Rapid Response Services (RRS)
From July 25 to 29, the SAPS Rapid Response Services, including the flying squad, K9 units and Highway Patrol, arrested 133 people across Gauteng.
The operation resulted in:
• 71 arrests for serious crimes, including assault GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of precious metals, common robbery, malicious damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol, contravention of the Immigration Act, armed robbery, burglary, possession of illicit cigarettes, house robbery, contempt of court, kidnapping, murder, contravention of a protection order, hijacking, shoplifting, rape, business burglary, tampering with essential infrastructure, intimidation and theft;
• 13 arrests after recovering 35 hijacked and stolen vehicles;
• five arrests for the possession of unlicensed firearms. Officers seized eight weapons;
• 44 arrests for possession of drugs with the intent to sell. The recovered drugs included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
SAPS Gauteng Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS)
• Divers recovered the body of a missing person from a channel containing contaminated water in Olievenhoutbosch, next to the R55, on July 28.
• On the same day, WPDS officers responded to a scene in Atteridgeville to recover the body of an unknown man from a rock under a waterfall between WF Ngomo Drive and the N4.
• The body of an unidentified person was recovered from the Hennops River, Wierdabrug, on July 30.
