Operations are continuing in an effort to stamp out crime.

Possession of stolen motorcycle
A 39-year-old man was arrested at a filling station on Atlas Road, Lakefield, on August 6.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) were called to assist a private security company in the arrest when it was found that the motorcycle he was riding was reported as stolen in Akasia in June.

Drug possession
• BFS members arrested a 40-year-old man on August 7 while doing routine patrols on the R555 Etwatwa.

He was found with dagga, with an estimated value of R2 000.

A further charge of bribery was added when he offered officers R1 000 in exchange for his release.

• A 35-year-old man was arrested in Ivory Park for possession of Mandrax.

SAPS Rapid Response Services (RRS)
From August 1 to 7, the SAPS Rapid Response Services, including the flying squad, K9 units and Highway Patrol, arrested 74 people across Gauteng.

The operation resulted in:
• 33 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol, contravention of the immigration act, robbery, contempt of court, bribery, domestic violence, shoplifting and theft;

• the recovery of 49 hijacked and stolen vehicles, with six for being in possession of these vehicles;

• two arrests for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. One weapon was seized;

• 33 arrests for possession of drugs with the intent to sell. Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
