Crime in Brief

Operations will continue in an effort to stamp out crime.

Possession of drugs
• Two 35-year-old men travelling in a white Toyota Hilux were arrested on August 17, on Lancaster Road, Actonville.

While conducting routine stop and search operations, officers of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) found dagga valued at R35 000.

An additional charge of bribery was added when one of the suspects offered officers R1 000 in exchange for their release.

• Five suspects were arrested from August 16 to 18 on charges of possession of drugs with the intent to sell.

Arrests were made in Ivory Park and Tsakane.

The suspects were found in possession of heroin, cocaine, Mandrax and meth.

Vehicle recovery
Two abandoned vehicles were recovered during routine BFS operations.

• A white Isuzu was found in Ivory Park, it had been reported as hijacked in the same area.

•A white Hyundai Accent was found in Chief Luthuli, Cloverdene, it was reported as hijacked in Crystal Park.

Rapid Response Services (RRS)
From August 8 to 14, SAPS Rapid Response Services, including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 103 suspects across Gauteng.

The operation resulted in:
• 55 arrests for serious crimes including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property, reckless and negligent driving, contravention of the immigration act, robbery, contravention of a protection order, domestic violence, shoplifting, attempted murder, murder, kidnapping, fraud, business robbery, rape and theft.

• Recovery of 47 hijacked and stolen vehicles.
Six arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.

• Two suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. Five weapons were seized

• 40 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.

Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax
