Venter strides to bronze at champs
She finished third in the veteran women 40-44 race.
After battling through a rocky start to her season, Charlotte Venter found her rhythm when it mattered the most, clinching a hard-earned bronze medal at the CGA Cross Country Championships in Germiston on August 16.
The result ensures the Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) athlete will again line up at next month’s ASA Cross Country Championships in Middelburg for the second year running.
“The race was fast and challenging, especially with the start delay, which tested everyone’s patience and nerves. Once we got going, I knew the hills would be the toughest part and having to tackle it twice pushed me to dig deep,” Venter said.

“I managed to run strong up the climbs, but the competition was fierce this year, and it was a fight to keep position since there were some fast ladies hot on my heels. My goal was to give absolutely everything. I’m proud I managed to do that and secure a spot to participate in the nationals again this year.”
She is honoured to represent the CGA again at the nationals on September 6. After setting a lifetime best 16:45 at last year’s national showpiece in the Vaal to finish 15th, and helping the CGA to a team silver in the sub-veteran women’s event, she hopes for another improved performance.
“It’s a huge honour to qualify again. I’m excited for the challenge. My preparation focuses on sharpening my speed and strength, while also making sure I arrive fresh and confident.
“Last year’s nationals taught me a lot, and this year, my goal is to run my best possible race, stay mentally strong and, hopefully, improve on my previous performance, and make my team proud.”
Giving her autopsy of the provincial campaign, Venter said it was a season of growth physically and mentally, which helped her remain competitive.

“It’s been a rocky start to this season’s cross-country, but consistency has been the key. Even on days when motivation was low, I kept showing up and trusting the process. I’ve learnt to listen to my body, balance hard sessions with recovery and lean on my faith and family when things get overwhelming,” she said.
