From May 22 to June 1, the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and Police Emergency Services (PES) arrested 146 suspects.
Possession of stolen goods
Two men were arrested at a scrap dealership on Harpur Avenue on May 27 for attempting to sell suspected stolen goods.
Gauteng Traffic Wardens notified BFS officers that the suspects were at the dealership to sell a section of palisade fencing.
The owner of the goods arrived on the scene and positively identified the goods.
Further investigations on the scene led to the arrest of an additional two suspects for being in possession of drugs.
Meth and Mandrax were confiscated.
Possession of gold-bearing material
A man was arrested on May 27 on Modderbee Road, Rynsoord, after he was found in possession of gold-bearing material, allegedly belonging to a local mining company.
Possession of drugs
Three suspects were arrested for drug-related offences.
Arrests were made in Rabie Ridge and Kempton Park.
Meth, heroin, and Mandrax were recovered.
Police Emergency Services (PES)
From May 22 to 28, the PES, including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 138 suspects across Gauteng.
The operation resulted in:
• 49 arrests for crimes including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, business robbery, possession of explosives, possession of unlicensed ammunition, malicious damage to property, arson, possession of counterfeit money, rape, theft, driving under the influence of alcohol, armed robbery, hijacking, theft of a motor vehicle, domestic violence, house break-in, bribery and contravention of the immigration act.
• Recovery of 41 hijacked and stolen vehicles.
Twelve arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.
• Six suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. Seven weapons were seized
• 71 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and mandrax.
