EMPD cracks down on crime across Benoni
These operations aimed to maintain law and order in Benoni.

Over the past few weeks, members of the EMPD have been actively tackling crime and illegal activity across Benoni, achieving multiple arrests, confiscations, and enforcement actions.
Drunk driving arrests
EMPD officers recently arrested two men for driving under the influence on Snake Road.
According to City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the two motorists were driving separately in a red VW Golf and a red Nissan.
Officers detected a strong smell of alcohol, and breathalyser tests confirmed both drivers were over the legal limit. The men were taken to a nearby clinic for blood tests.
They are facing charges of driving under the influence and will soon appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.
Murder arrest in Etwatwa
On August 1, a 40-year-old man was arrested in Etwatwa for alleged murder and common assault.
Members of the Specialised Services received information that the suspect, wanted for crimes in Delmas, was hiding in the Emaphupheni section of Etwatwa.

Officers intercepted him on Goma Street, read him his rights, and detained him at Delmas Police Station.
School drug search
In a joint operation on August 7, EMPD officers and other law enforcement agencies conducted a school search at Etwatwa Secondary School.
The operation aimed to ensure the premises were free of illegal substances and dangerous weapons.

A K9 unit sniffer dog detected illicit items, including cigarettes, three ziplock bags of dagga, two ziplock bags of crystal meth, a white powder suspected to be drugs, and a box of matches.
Illegal structures demolished
In Daveyton, the EMPD Land Unit, Response Unit, and the SAPS demolished 23 illegal structures. Officers acted following a complaint from the landowner, who provided proof of ownership and said previous requests for removal had been ignored.

Liquor confiscation in Crystal Park
Bronberg Precinct officers confiscated liquor estimated at R50 000 from two illegal shebeens in Crystal Park.
“Officers found that the first outlet lacked a liquor license or permit, and the second shebeen also failed to produce proper documentation.

Both operations led to the closure of the premises and confiscation of liquor,” said Dlamini.
Owners may reclaim their liquor if they present a valid permit or license.
Operation Shanela: electricity connections
EMPD officers, in conjunction with Eskom, SAPS, private security, and other stakeholders, conducted a Mini Operation Shanela in Actonville and Wattville.

The operation targeted illegal electricity connections in the informal settlements of Emlotheni and Emandleni. The team removed over 13 000 illegal connections during the operation.
