SAPS need help to identify murder victim’s body

Unclaimed bodies will be given a paupers burial.

Detective Warrant Officer Johan Ferreira, of the Benoni Detective Branch, needs help to identify the body of a murder victim.

According to information, the body of an unidentified man, in his late 30s, was found in Luton Road, next to the Benoni train station, on August 17.

Due to a lack of identification, the victim’s body was transferred to the Springs Government Mortuary.
Benoni Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Nomsa Sekele, explained that, according to state regulations, unclaimed human remains may only be kept at state facilities for a minimum of seven and a maximum of 30 days.

“If all attempts to identify the victim have been exhausted, the State will provide a pauper’s burial,” said Sekele.

“Our detectives are investigating numerous cases of murder where the victims have not yet been identified.

“Anyone who has a loved one who is missing, or suspects that a loved one may have fallen victim to a crime, is urged to register a missing person report at their nearest police station. Reports such as these could assist in identifying bodies that are at government mortuaries.”

Contact Ferreira at 082 736 1030 with information that could assist in identifying the Luton Road murder victim.
