The police are appealing to the community to exercise caution when performing religious and traditional rituals in rivers and streams.
This follows the recent discovery of the body of a 58-year-old man at Lake View Dam in Wattville. According to the police, this is not the first time a body has been retrieved from the dam.
Ekurhuleni district police spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said the man’s family revealed that he had gone to the dam to pray, as he regularly did, but this time he never returned home.
“The discovery was made after police noticed the man’s vehicle parked near the dam for a long time without anyone inside,” said Sekgobela.
Police suspect the man may have drowned. An inquest docket has been opened by the Actonville SAPS.
