Swift Aquatics swimmers impress at gala

The club achieved a total of seven medals, while most of the swimmers achieved personal milestones in their events.

The Swift Aquatics’ Cayden Nyabadza and Lily Herman were the club’s standout performers at the Eastern Gauteng Aquatics Junior Winter Gala at St Benedict’s College in Bedfordview on August 16 and 17.

Nyabadza collected two gold, two silvers and two bronze medals in his age-group, while Herman grabbed a bronze in the 10-year old girls’ 100m backstroke.

Cayden Nyabadza won six medals.

The club was represented by 11 junior swimmers who achieved personal bests in their events.

Reflecting on the swimmers’ performance at the gala, coach Mark Stainton expressed pride in how they have improved since his appointment in January.

Lily Herman received a bronze in the 100m backstroke.

“I’m very proud because in January, most of them were on level. They have achieved level two times, while some achieved level three times. Others are on the cusp of going into South Africa junior level times. We’ve got some who have already qualified for SA junior champs in April next year,” he said.

Stainton added that his long-term goal is getting the young swimmers to a higher standard of swimming.
