Operations will continue in an effort to stamp out crime.

Possession of drugs
• Two men were arrested on the R555, Etwatwa, on September 6 on charges of being in possession of drugs, with the intent to sell. The arrest comes after patrolling Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members, pulled the occupant’s white Isuzu truck over for reckless driving. A search of the vehicle was conducted upon which officers discovered 60 bags of compressed dagga with an estimated value of R200 000 inside the vehicle.

The occupants of this Isuzu truck were arrested on the R555, Etwatwa on charges of being in possession of drugs, with the intention to sell. • Seven suspects were arrested in Etwatwa, Emaphupheni, Kaalfontein Ext 4, Ivory Park, Kempton Park and Brakpan. Heroine, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were seized.

Driving under the influence of alcohol
Two suspects were arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, in Van Dyk Park (Boksburg) and Prince’s Avenue.

Shoplifting
A 34-year-old was arrested at Lakeside Mall for shoplifting, on September 6.

Vehicle recovery
An abandoned silver BMW, reported stolen in Johannesburg, was recovered at a shopping centre in Boksburg North.

SAPS Rapid Respons Services (RRS)
From August 29 to September 4, SAPS Rapid Response Services, including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 71 suspects across Gauteng.

The operation resulted in:
• 36 arrests for serious crimes including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, contravention of the Immigration Act, armed robbery, contempt of court, attempted murder, kidnapping, tampering with essential infrastructure, housebreaking, fraud, possession of vehicle break-in equipment, robbery, driving under the influence of alcohol, handling a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, possession of a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm in a public place.

• Recovery of 33 hijacked and stolen vehicles.
Six arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.

• Two suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. Two weapons were seized.

• 27 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Heroine, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax were confiscated.

Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS)
The SAPS WPDS responded to four incidents from August 25 to 31, across Gauteng.

• The body of a 47-year-old man was recovered under a tree trunk that was submerged under 1m of water in an old concrete mining structure, at Plastic City squatter camp, Brakpan, on August 25.

• Divers from Sedibeng responded to Klipriver on August 28 to recover the body of an unknown male, which was found floating in shallow water.

• Assisted by Johannesburg K9 Search and Rescue, the body of a man was recovered from a stormwater drain in Booysens on August 29.

• The body of a man travelling in a Nissan Hardbody registered to the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) was recovered on August 31 on the R29 towards Leandra. It is alleged that the vehicle had veered off the road into a nearby body of water.

The victim’s body was recovered following a 15-minute dive by Ekurhuleni WPDS members.
