The community of Daveyton is informed of a change in leadership at Daveyton SAPS, following Colonel Khumbulani Ndaba being placed on sick leave.

Colonel Poppy Maleka, who previously served as head of support at Vosloorus SAPS, officially commenced her role as acting station commander on August 25.

Maleka, who lives in Rynfield, said she has received a warm welcome from fellow police officers, community members and stakeholders.

“The main reason I’m here is to make sure that the community gets proper service delivery. I’m here to serve the community,” she said.

Colonel Poppy Maleka has settled into her new position as the acting station commander of Daveyton SAPS.

Maleka added that she has noted a decline in trio crimes, which she attributes to the good work of police officers over the years and to increased police visibility.

She expressed hope that crime levels will continue to drop so that residents can live in a safe and conducive environment.

Having joined the SAPS in 2005, Maleka brings extensive experience to her new role. Her career spans the Germiston and Brakpan Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) units, Tsakane SAPS and the Ekurhuleni Provincial Office, before she was appointed head of support in Vosloorus in February 2020.

Her academic background includes a social work degree from North-West University, majoring in psychology, a forensic investigation qualification from the University of Cape Town, a Master’s Degree in Forensic Practice from North-West University, and a Bachelor in Business Administration from STADIO.

Maleka urges the community to work with the police in fighting crime.

“I hope to build a healthy and strong relationship with the community, because the police cannot fight crime alone. I encourage residents to report any criminal activities and remind them that they may remain anonymous,” she said.

Community members can contact the acting station commander directly on 082 778 5928.
