Dlamini dreams of Olympics

This was his first national event.

Katlego Dlamini is celebrating a strong performance after claiming bronze in the boys’ U8 1km race at the ASA Cross-Country Championships in Middelburg on September 6.

The East Athletic Club athlete crossed the finish line in 03:42, adding the bronze to the gold medal he won last month at the Central Gauteng Championships in Germiston.

“This is just the start. I’m grateful for the guidance from my coaches. This medal means a lot,” said Dlamini.

He was narrowly beaten by Stephan Fourie of Athletics Central North West, who clocked 03:38 for the national title, while Dlamini finished just a second behind runner-up Kean Weidemann of Athletics North West North.

Coached by the late Isaac Ndlovu, Dlamini dreams of one day wearing the green and gold at the Olympics.

“I told Coach Isaac that I want to go to the Olympics one day. I will work hard to make this dream a reality. I also want to thank him for preparing me, and all the parents in our team for their support,” he said.

With hard work, commitment, and determination, Dlamini believes nothing can stop him from going far in his athletic journey.
