Young philanthropist donates sanitary pads to Daveyton schools

The 17-year-old expressed her gratitude to the staff and learners of both schools for welcoming the initiative and to the donors whose contributions made it possible.

Miss Elite Daveyton Queen and Philanthropist 2024, Lesego Ratlebyane (17), recently donated sanitary pads to learners at Gugulesizwe Primary and Daveyton Intermediate schools.

Lesego said she deliberately chose the two schools because many young girls there struggle to access basic sanitary products, often resulting in them missing classes, falling behind academically, and losing confidence.

“The decision to start this initiative was deeply personal. I’ve always believed that empowerment begins with the small things that help us feel confident in who we are.

“For girls, something as simple as having sanitary pads can make a huge difference in their self-esteem and their ability to continue learning without unnecessary interruptions.”

She added that the aim of the campaign went beyond providing sanitary products.

“Our goal wasn’t just to provide products but also to send a message that they are not alone and that their voices and futures are important. We wanted to give them a sense of worth and remind them that they can dream, achieve, and lead. I believe change begins when we uplift others in our own communities.

“These two schools were just the starting points, but our hope is to expand this initiative so no girl feels left behind simply because of her circumstances,” she explained.
