Teamwork powers Lake Club to top podium spots
Joe and Toy Zietsman and John Molupi were the overall winners.
Lake Club Benoni delivered a masterclass in precision and teamwork at the fifth annual Vital Engineering Trips tournament on October 3, sweeping the podium in a commanding display that underlined their dominance on the green.
The trio of Joe and Toy Zietsman and John Molupi were the overall winners after a stunning performance on the final day of the three-week tournament. They were followed by the team of Ronwen Monoyoudis, Cherie-Ann Mills and Wilma Richardson in second place. Charles Bowles, Alan Cross and John Chapman completed the top three, capping off a successful competition for the hosts.

While bowls don’t often attract much sponsorship, Vital Engineering’s Ted Jarvis said it was rewarding to bring some joy to the players and expressed his gratitude to the company’s owner, Glen Pringle, for his generosity.
“It’s a privilege and an honour to sponsor this tournament for the bowlers who don’t get a lot of sponsorship. It’s been a marvellous event. It’s a contribution to the community and something to bring out the best in the players. People here don’t have many opportunities to participate in tournaments like this. It’s a fun event. To bring some joy to these guys is really tremendous,” said Jarvis.

The tournament was started five years ago to honour the late Lake Club Bowls member, Mike Blackstock.
“Mike approached Glen and me. Glen agreed to do it, but Mike never lived long enough to see the realisation of this tournament. Val Smith and Sandra MacKay have taken it over and turned it into the success it is today,” Jarvis added.

Sandra MacKay thanked Vital Engineering for its important role in the club.
“It’s a brilliant tournament. It’s the fifth year we are hosting it. It’s great to have their sponsorship. Vital Engineering is important to the club,” she said.
