Divers recover body in Emandleni

The victim had been missing for four days before his body was recovered.

Ekurhuleni Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS) members recovered the body of a 34-year-old man in the Glenshaft Pan, Emandleni, on October 8.

According to WPDS spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the victim was allegedly seen running from a group of community members after a fight on October 4.

“The man had not been seen since, with the community speculating that he might have fallen into the contaminated water. Divers were deployed to the area, which had been pointed out,” he said.

Wearing hazardous material suits, divers descended into the murky waters for a 70-minute dive.

“The intensive search resulted in the victim’s body being recovered at a depth of 2.5m,” said Giblin.

Actonville station commander Colonel Mbuzima Mswanganyi confirmed that there were no arrests and that investigations are continuing.

“We appeal to anyone with information to come forward,” he said.
