Crime in Brief

Operations will be intensified in the lead up to the festive season.

From October 3 to 12 the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and the SAPS Emergency Services (PES) made the following arrests.

Possession of drugs
• Two men were arrested in Elsburg. Meth was recovered.

• A foreign national was arrested at the Edenvale Taxi Rank. He was found in possession of 21 bags of dagga.

Illicit cigarettes
A 58-year-old was arrested at the supermarket in Petit when he was found in possession of 16 cartons of illicit cigarettes.

Possession of an unlicensed firearm
A 32-year-old man was arrested on the N12 at the Etwatwa off-ramp after members of the community pointed him out, claiming he was in possession of a suspected unlicensed firearm.

Police Emergency Services (PES)
PES including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 82 suspects across Gauteng.
The operation resulted in:

• 24 arrests for serious crimes including assault common with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft, contravention of the immigration act, possession of a vehicle jamming device and house burglary.

• Recovery of 37 hijacked and stolen vehicles.
Ten arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.

• Two unlicensed firearms were recovered

• 48 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
