Operation are set to continue in an effort to stamp out crime.

Possession of drugs
• Following up on information, Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members arrested a 32-year-old man in Thembisa for being in possession of drugs with the intent to sell.

Officers found 2.2kg of dagga at the suspect’s residence on August 25.

• Three suspects, aged 27 to 35, were arrested on August 26 when found with meth and heroin.

• Two 25-year-old men travelling in a white Isuzu were arrested in Etwatwa during a routine stop-and-search. Thirteen bags of dagga, with an estimated value of R5 000, were found in their possession.

• A 30-year-old man was arrested in Brakpan when found with meth.

Robbery suspects arrested
While on routine patrols on the R555, Etwatwa, BFS members were flagged down by a fellow motorist claiming five men in a silver Toyota Rumion were in a robbery.

It was alleged that the five robbed a man of a cellphone in Delmas on the R50.

The vehicle was traced and tactically brought to a stop on Holfontein Road.

Two men were arrested, while three evaded arrest.

With the help of alert community members, one fleeing man was arrested. An iPhone valued at R35 000 and taken from the robbery victim was recovered.

SAPS Rapid Response Services (RRS)
From August 22 to 28, the SAPS Rapid Response Services, including the flying squad, K9 units and the Highway Patrol arrested 47 people across Gauteng.

The operation results:
• Forty-two arrests for serious crimes, including assault common with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property, possession of unwrought precious metal-bearing material, contravention of the Immigration Act, armed robbery, contempt of court, domestic violence, shoplifting, use of motor vehicle without owner’s consent, attempted murder, kidnapping, tampering with essential infrastructure, intimidation, rape, possession of counterfeit goods, housebreaking, extortion, fraud, possession of unlicensed ammunition, business burglary and contravention of a protection order;

• Forty-seven hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered. There were four arrests for being in possession of these vehicles;

• Four people were arrested for having unlicensed firearms, and two weapons were seized;

• Fifty-two people were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell. The drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
