Bulhakov grabs eight golds at winter gala

He was the Swift Aquatics' top performer in the event.

The Swift Aquatics’ Daniel Bulhakov clinched eight gold medals, two silvers and a bronze during the Ekurhuleni Aquatics senior winter championships at St Benedict’s College.

Bulhakov grabbed golds in the 200m individual medley, 50m freestyle and the 100m and 200m freestyle. The swimmer also won the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, as well as the 100m butterfly.

Furthermore, he finished second in the 100m and 200m breaststroke and was third in the 400m freestyle to finish the competition with a 10-medal haul.

Bulhakov’s teammate, Daniel Botha, was second in the 100m butterfly and third in the 100m breaststroke, while Victoria Bulhakov grabbed a bronze in the women’s 100m breast stroke.

“Our swimmers did extremely well. Many of them achieved lifetime bests. The results speak for themselves as the level of swimming being achieved so early in the season is a great benchmark. I am proud of them,” said Coach Mark Stainton.
