DA assembles dignity packs

“Donations like these are a testament of a community that cares.”

Members of the DA’s BenBurg (Benoni and Boksburg) Constituency recently visited local police stations to deliver dignity packs for GBV survivors.

Spearheaded by Ward 27 Clr Lornette Joseph, donated toiletries, clothing, underwear and toys were collected since July as part of her ongoing community upliftment projects.

Some 114 bags were assembled, while boxes of toys and underwear were handed to five police stations and the CPF to bring comfort and care to victims of rape and abuse, who step into law enforcement offices to report these crimes.

“Items were distributed among Benoni, Boksburg North, Crystal Park, Actonville and Brakpan police stations, offering victims of crime basic necessities and comfort during traumatic times,” said Joseph.

“The project aimed to restore dignity to victims and ensure that when they take the brave step to report an assault, they are met with kindness, support and care. This was only possible through the support of local businesses and the communities of wards 27, 28 and 22.”

She thanked legal eagles Jan L Jordaan Inc, whose donation allowed them to secure more items.

“GBV is one of the most pressing crises in our communities. This project shows what can be achieved when we come together to take real action,” she said.

“Every bag represents compassion and hope for someone rebuilding a life after trauma.”

She said collections would continue and help regularly replenish stock.
