Failed cash heist leaves 3 injured

Three Fidelity security guards were rushed to hospital after being injured during an attempted cash-in-transit robbery in Daveyton.

Three Fidelity security guards were rushed to the hospital after sustaining injuries during a CIT heist on the corner of Heald and Sigalo streets in Daveyton on November 5.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, a group of about 10 people attacked a Fidelity cash van, leading to a shootout that injured the guards.

“No cash was taken from the vehicle,” said Sibeko.

It is alleged that the criminals arrived in a silver Honda Civic and opened fire on the guards. A white Mercedes-Benz believed to have been used by the suspects was found burnt and abandoned at the scene.

The Daveyton SAPS opened a case of attempted cash-in-transit robbery and three counts of attempted murder.
