Benoni SPCA launches Christmas Cheer Fund with R100 000 goal
All donations made to the SPCA qualify for an S18A tax certificate.
The Benoni SPCA has officially launched its annual Christmas Cheer Fund and is calling on the community to open their hearts and support animals in need this festive season.
Each year, the organisation experiences a spike in the number of surrendered, stray and abandoned animals as holiday pressures mount and many pet owners struggle to cope.
The Cheer Fund helps the SPCA feed and care for these animals and ensures that even those spending Christmas behind kennel bars receive treats and comfort.
While the fund raised an impressive R27 168 in 2023, donations dropped sharply to R9 742 in 2024. This year, the SPCA is aiming high, hoping to bring in R100 000 to meet growing needs.
According to fundraising organiser Monique Quenet, the SPCA’s wish list includes purchasing uniforms and personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff and volunteers, as well as other essential items needed to keep the society running effectively.
Community members are encouraged to contribute by visiting or contacting the SPCA.
Donors can write their name, donation amount and an optional message in the Cheer Fund book found at reception, and watch for their name on the City Times online platforms.
Those who prefer to donate electronically can deposit contributions into the Benoni SPCA’s bank account:
