Crime in Brief

Intensified operations will continue throughout the festive season.

The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and the SAPS Police Emergency Services (PES) made the following arrests between November 21 and 27.

Possession of drugs
• A man travelling in an Isuzu truck was arrested on November 26 after officers found he was transporting three bags of compressed dagga, valued at R30 000.

The man was stopped on the corner of Heidelberg and Tom Jones roads when he was seen speeding.

• BFS officers tracked and traced an Audi A6 to Ridge Road, Midrand, on November 27, after receiving information that it might be used to transport drugs.

They arrested a foreign national after finding two containers allegedly containing meth inside the vehicle.

The substance, with an estimated value of R100 000, and the man were handed to the Midrand SAPS for further investigation.

PES
The PES, including the flying squad, K9 units and Highway Patrol, arrested 92 people across Gauteng.
The results:
• 47 arrests for serious crimes, including common assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, house burglary, theft, money laundering, contravening the Immigration Act and a protection order, robbery, bribery and fraud.

• The recovery of 46 hijacked and stolen vehicles, and nine arrests on charges of possessing these vehicles.

• Four arrests for possessing unlicensed firearms, with seven weapons were seized

• 32 arrests for possession of drugs with the intent to sell. The drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
