Collins named BWC MVP at awards

It was a good year for the wrestler. He won the most matches in the U52kg category and also earned his provincial colours.

Joshua Collins rounded off a standout year after he was named the Benoni Wrestling Club’s (BWC) sportsperson of the year at the organisation’s recent end-of-year awards.

Collins was recognised for winning the most matches in the U52kg category and for earning his provincial colours in a year when the wrestler showcased his talent on the mat.

Coach Jan van Wyngaardt received the coach of the year award, while Hansie Naudé walked away with the official of the year award. Louis Serfontein received the chairman’s award, and administrator, Adele Oberholzer was recognised for her dedication.

Other big winners included Stiaan Oberholzer, who walked away with the best progress, most technical wrestler U35kg, best attitude award, and was recognised for receiving his provincial colours.

Nico Zandberg received five awards, including most technical wrestler U52kg, best wrestler, and was recognised for earning his provincial colours, while Ben Oberholzer received awards for best progress, most technical progress U52kg, most matches won in the U35kg category, and for his provincial colours.

• Jan-Hendrik Venter – encouragement
• Ulrich van der Linde – encouragement
• Kayden Jockia – encouragement
• Jan-Louis Lourens – encouragement
• Absent but received encouragement awards: Caleb Starak, Hanru Liebenberg and Tiaan Johnson.
