WATCH: Belvedere opens dedicated clinic

“This donation is a statement of faith in our mission and the potential of every learner.”

Using an old media centre, the Belvedere School now boasts a fully functional clinic, dedicated to the overall health of its learners.

Members of the South African Institute for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (SAIRAC) visited the school on December 5 to witness the opening of the facility.

The SAIRAC hosted a golf day at the Benoni Lake Club in March, aiming to raise funds to benefit the school that caters to the needs of Learners with special educational needs (LSEN).

“The day was well supported by affiliated members and R90 000 was raised,” said Gregory Grobbelaar, the SAIRAC Johannesburg chairperson.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the school in this manner and believe that the health education the learners will receive here will enable them to make sustainable choices in the future.”

Principal Renier Petersen said the clinic, with its dedicated nurse, Sister Lethiwe Sibaya, would offer health support to every learner, without them having to leave the school grounds.

“Your donation is a giant step forward in offering dignified care to our learners,” he said.

“Staff and parents can rest easy, knowing the learners have a safe space where daily medications can be administered.”

Following the ribbon cutting, Sibaya told the SAIRAC representatives that learners would be encouraged to undergo regular health screenings. Her open-door policy would offer them guidance in all healthcare-related matters.

“Sister Sibaya will oversee all health and safety-related operations at the school and provide regular first aid training to all the staff,” said Petersen.

“One donation has put us in a position to better equip our educators as well as create and offer quality healthcare services and support to our learners.”
