Age no barrier for Kirsch at Springs Striders Race

She was second in the 70+ women's 15km.

Agnes Kirsch showed that age is truly just a number, delivering a sensational second-place finish in the women’s 15km race in her category at the Springs Striders Road Race on January 18.

Competing in the 70+ women’s division, the Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) septuagenarian stopped the clock at 02:08:48 to secure a podium finish, finishing behind race winner Jenny Roberts. Gail Mary Williams of Springs Striders was third.


Agnes Kirsch was second in the 70+ women’s 15km race.

The BNAC was among the dominant clubs in terms of participation at the race, with several athletes clocking top-10 performances in their events and categories.

In the men’s 15km race, Mpho Namane was the first Northerns athlete at the finish on the Veritas College sport grounds, completing the men’s event fifth in 54:11.

Sabelo Simelane followed Namane to the finish, crossing the line in 55:05 for sixth place, while Fernando Covane and Casper Moodie also completed the race under 59:00. Covane was 10th in 56:19 and Moodie 14th overall in 58:51.

Darren Zabielski was sixth in 01:01:52 in the veteran men’s (40-49) race, while Norman Milne was fourth in 01:40:24 in the 70+ men’s event.

Jane Nielson clocked 03:24:12 for an impressive fourth place in the sub-veteran women’s (60-69) race.
