Operations will continue to stamp out crime.

The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and the Police Emergency Services (PES) arrested 152 people between January 16 and 25.

Drug possession
• BFS officers doing stop-and-searches on the R55, Etwatwa, arrested the driver of a Toyota Hilux on January 24 after finding him with five large bags of dagga valued at about R35 000.
• Three people were arrested on charges of possession of drugs with the intent to sell. The arrests were made in Kempton Park and Brakpan.

PES
From January 16 to 22, the PES, the BFS, K9 units and Highway Patrol arrested 147 people across Gauteng.
The operation resulted in:
• 57 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing suspected stolen property, robbery, contravening a protection order, kidnapping, attempted murder of police officer, possessing abalone, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal manufacturing of liquor, reckless and negligent driving, malicious damage to property, theft, burglary, child neglect, obstructing a SAPS officer in the exercise of his powers and contravening the Immigration Act;

• 52 hijacked and stolen vehicles being recovered, with 17 arrests for possessing these vehicles;

• 20 arrests for possessing unlicensed firearms, with nine weapons seized;

• 53 arrests for possessing drugs with the intent to sell. Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
