Acting Daveyton SAPS station commander Colonel Poppy Maleka commended the officers involved.
The Benoni Regional Court recently sentenced Nduduzo Khumalo (37) to life imprisonment plus 15 years for murder and armed robbery.
Additionally, he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The sentencing follows an incident that occurred outside Khayalami Bottlestore in Swazi Street, Daveyton, on April 5, 2024. Khumalo and an unidentified accomplice robbed several people at gunpoint. A male customer was shot and killed during the robbery.
Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Constable Ntando Ngomane said police received a tip-off on May 7, 2024, regarding the whereabouts of the accused.
“Detective Sergeant Precious Malindi arrested Khumalo when she went to the supplied address.
“Khumalo, who was charged with murder and armed robbery, was detained at Daveyton SAPS, where his case was allocated to Detective Sergeant Ndivhuwo Emmanuel Ramaru for further investigation,” said Ngomane.
Acting Daveyton SAPS station commander Colonel Poppy Maleka commended the officers involved in the investigation that led to the conviction and sentencing.
“Well done to the detective who apprehended the accused and to the investigating officer for the excellent work in conducting thorough investigations and ensuring that justice was served for the victims.
“This should send a strong message to criminals that there are consequences for every action and that crime does not pay.”
