Two learners fall out of moving taxi

Both learners received medical attention on the scene.

A 14-year-old Benoni High School learner is in a critical yet stable condition following an accident that occurred on Webb Street on February 11.

According to EMPD media liaison Lerato Monyane, the incident occurred at 08:10 when a silver Nissan Qashqai allegedly side-swiped a white Toyota Quantum in which learners were travelling.

“As a result, the vehicle’s side passenger door dislodged from its rails, causing the female learner, as well as a learner from Belvedere School, to fall out of the moving taxi,” she said.

Ineke van Huyssteen, communications officer for ER24, confirmed the incident, saying that the female learner sustained moderate injuries.

“She was treated on scene by responding ER24 paramedics before being transported to hospital for further medical care,” she said.

BHS duty principal Fanie van der Linde stated that the school has been in continuous contact with the learner’s family and has been receiving regular updates on her condition.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to her as well as her family and wish her a full and speedy recovery,” he said.

Belvedere School confirmed that the affected learner did not sustain serious injuries.
