Firearms and ammunition recovered in Lindelani and Wattville

Police investigations into both matters are ongoing.

Five men were recently arrested in Lindelani after police, who were searching for a murder suspect, discovered two firearms linked to separate cases reported in 2024.

According to SAPS Ekurhuleni district communication officer Captain Nelda Sekgobela, while members of the Highway Patrol Unit were patrolling the Lindelani area at about 14:40, they noticed five men sitting in a veld.

“Police approached the men and searched them. They recovered a firearm with eight rounds of live ammunition, positively linked to a case reported in Mamelodi in September 2024. A second firearm, loaded with 10 rounds of live ammunition, was also found, and it was positively linked to a case reported in Midrand in October 2024.”

The firearm recovered in Wattville.

The arrests were made while officers were searching for a suspect wanted in connection with a murder committed in Lindelani last year.

The five suspects were arrested for possession of firearms and ammunition and have since appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old man was arrested in Wattville for possession of an unlicensed 9mm Norinco Star firearm with the serial number filed off, as well as five rounds of live ammunition.

Sekgobela said Actonville police officers were conducting crime prevention patrols when they received information about suspicious men in Wattville.

“The members swiftly responded to the complaint and, upon arrival, found three men. When the men noticed the police approaching, they ran away. Officers gave chase and managed to apprehend them,” she said.

During a search, one of the suspects was found in possession of the firearm. He was arrested and detained at the Actonville Police Station and has since appeared in court.

Police investigations into both matters are ongoing.
