Northerns rugby steps into the future with new logo
"This logo is not just a design. It’s a symbol of every sacrifice, player and supporter who has come before us."
The Benoni Northerns Rugby Club (BNRC) ushered in a new era after unveiling its new crest at the club headquarters at Benoni Northerns Sports Club (BNSC) on February 26.
After weeks of teasers on the club’s social media platforms, the logo was unveiled in front of current and former players, as well as supporters, who cheered proudly as the banner was lowered to reveal the new design.

Designed by Nomad Digital Designs (NDD), the crest, which represents grit, discipline and loyalty, sports the BNSC’s three scimitars on top of the BNRC’s traditional red shield, with the club’s red, black and gold colours on the side.
Below the scimitars, a gold ribbon goes around the shield and sports a red rugby ball perched in between the words ‘Benoni Rugby’ written in a bold Times New Roman font.
The logo also includes the club’s founding year – 1910 – with ‘Benoni Northerns’ on top and ‘we call it home’ at the bottom.

Deputy chairperson Jaco Havenga said the logo celebrates the club’s 116 years of existence and is dedicated to every player and club member – past and present – who dedicated their time to the team.
“We are proud of where we come from. Our history is written in muddy jerseys, hard tackles, and long nights at the clubhouse, and all the generations of players who have donned these colours with pride,” he said.

“Thank you to NDD for designing our new logo. This logo is not just a design. It’s a symbol of every sacrifice, player and supporter who has come before us. It represents our past, present and belief in what this club can become. Tonight, we don’t just reveal a new logo. We honour our history, thank our people and step proudly into the future together,” Havebga added.
Carel van der Merwe, NDD’s managing director, said the logo “reflects our values today, the standard we expect tomorrow and the ambition we carry forward together”.

“This is the mark we defend. This is the standard we hold.
“Tonight isn’t about changing who we are. It’s about showing who we’ve become. This log represents growth, pride and the future of this club. Our history stays exactly where it belongs – as our foundation,” said Van der Merwe.
