Taxi violence suspected cause of accident in Daveyton

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.

Three people died following an accident on the Laris Street bridge, crossing over the N12, in Daveyton, on April 21.

According to EMPD media liaison Tikkie MacDonald, the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) received a call for assistance at 06:19, reporting that a taxi had veered off the road and landed in a nearby ditch.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found evidence that the vehicle may have been shot at before coming to a stop in the ditch,” he said.

“Three occupants of the vehicle were declared dead on the scene, while eight sustained moderate injuries. Four patients were transported to local hospitals after sustaining serious injuries.”

The Daveyton SAPS, along with the EMPD, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
